What is Biodynamic Massage Therapy?
Biodynamic massage therapy is a non-verbal, touch-based, holistic therapy. It is based on the belief that the ways in which we live our lives and how we respond to events – thoughts, feelings, interactions – often leave tracks, traces and residue stored in the body which show up as changes in fluid, muscle, tissue and structure. As we adapt to these changes, these changes in turn influence the way we live our lives. As a Biodynamic Massage Therapist, someone’ s physical symptoms are gateways for me and the client to better understand what is needed and how best to restore a sense of order, balance, harmony and flow in a way that affirms and honours the person and their body.
Qualified biodynamic massage therapist can approach a presented condition in a variety of ways. The range of options are drawn from:
- massage-based methods
- functional ways of working with joints and structure
- simple re-affirming contact to promote a sense of safety and security
- methods intended to calm, deepen, lighten or strengthen
- ways to rebalance the distribution of energy
- working without touch at the level of the aura
Practically, there are three aspects of Biodynamic Massage delivery that are distinct:
- Oil is not used so there is direct contact between the therapist and client
- There is no requirement to undress
- A stethoscope placed on the belly to listen to gut rumblings called Psycho-Peristalsis are used by the therapist as each session progresses.
As a therapeutic intervention, I recommend a minimum of 6 sessions. This is to give time for the relationship to develop and for us to be able to track how the body responds over time.
